Obituary

On August 9, 2021, Mr. Fred Matwychuk of Spedden, passed away unexpectedly at the age of 87 years as a result of a motor vehicle accident.  Fred is survived by his loving wife, Kathleen; 3 daughters, Carla Matwychuk, Tanya Matwychuk & Melissa (Jamie) Vasseur; 6 grandchildren, Maia, Samuel, Mira, Elias, Poppi & Georgi; 2 sisters, Mary Anderson & Anne (Cornel) Filipchuk; sister-in-law, Pat (Ron) Kopala; numerous nieces, nephews & friends. Fred was predeceased by his first wife, Esther; parents, Alexander & Irene Matwychuk; 2 brothers, Peter & Johnny. A Prayer Service will be held on Monday, August 16 at 7:30 p.m. at Vilna Cultural Centre, Vilna. Funeral Service will be held on Tuesday, August 17 at 10:30 a.m. at Holy Trinity Ukrainian Orthodox Church, Spedden. Reverend Father Benny Ambrosie will be officiating, with interment in the church cemetery. Someone we could always count on in so many ways. He weathered many a storm with our family, and I am truly grateful to have called him a friend.. He was more than a friend he was family. Please accept our deepest condolences on the passing of your husband, father and grandfather. Fred was a staple for many, many years in our family.. He endured all the hard times with us and celebrated all the good times! It is a great loss for the Spedden community and the void he has left behind will be hard to fill.
