Obituary

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Terry Ostapiw of St. Paul on May 12 at the age of 70 years. Terry is survived by his loving wife of 39 years, Christine; daughter, Tara (Gregg) Nixon; son, Trevor (Laura); grandchildren, Bennett & Claire Nixon, Addison & Milo; mother, Netty; brother, Michael (Corinne) and their children, Rayna & Kellen; numerous other nieces & nephews . Terry was predeceased by his father, Harry.

Terry had a long career teaching Phys. Ed. at Ashmont Elementary School, embracing his lifelong love of sports. He was an avid baseball player, golfer, curler & loved his Old Timers hockey where his friends fondly referred to him as “T.O.”. He also loved the outdoors, spending his summers camping with family. He could often be found with a clipboard in hand, as the self-proclaimed draw master for all the games. A constant stream of oldies music was always playing from Terry’s campsite. After retiring, having a perfectly manicured yard became Terry’s passion. You could always find him working in the backyard in the morning and relaxing in his chair in the afternoon. His other passion was sneaking treats to his grandkids from “Grandpa’s Stash” of goodies. Terry will be missed dearly by his family & friends.

Scheduled viewing Sunday, May 16 from 3:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. Friends and family must contact Trevor at 780-995-9863 to arrange a specific time. A Private Funeral Service will be held at All Saints Ukrainian Orthodox Church, St. Paul. Reverend Father Peter Haugen will be officiating with interment in Union Cemetery, St. Paul. If desired donations may be made to KidSport St. Paul c/o 5626-51 Street, St. Paul T0A 3A1. To send condolences online, please visit www.gracegardensfuneralchapel.com.

Heartfelt Condolences with Much Love. I still remember the time that Terry and I built a tree fort out at Uncle Alec’s farm one summer and James fondly remembers the golf game with Terry and Trevor. Good memories are something that you never forget.

Chris and family: we’d like to pass on our deep condolences to you on the loss of Terry. I always considered him a special friend even though we lost touch as life went on. I was honoured to have Terry as my Best Man in 1973 and then have him as God-Father to our first son Morgan. We were happy to see you at Morgan’s wedding. If times were different we would have certainly made the trip to be there with you. Love to you all. Be sure to know he will always be looking over you.
