Obituary
On February 12, 2013, Mr. Steve Smereka of St. Paul passed away at the age of 80 years. He is survived by his loving wife of 57 years, Diana; 3 daughters & 1 son, Penny Smereka of Edmonton, George (Cheryl) Smereka of St. Paul, Carol (Marc) Richard of St. Albert & Sharon (Yves) Gascon of Beaumont; 8 granddaughters; 6 great-grandchildren; 3 brothers & 4 sisters, Nick (Hazel) Smereka, Stella (Leonard) Bourget, Elizabeth Hrubeniuk, Lillian Havirko, Richard (Helena) Daley, Philip (Irene) Smereka & Joann Fika. He was predeceased by his parents, George & Helen; grandson, Shaun Gascon; 4 brothers, Bill, Metro, Alex & Harry; 4 sisters, Mona, Anna, Mary & Rose. Funeral Service Monday, February 18 at 10:30 a.m. at Grace Gardens Funeral Chapel, St. Paul. Pastor Kelly Sibley officiating, with interment in Union Cemetery, St. Paul. If desired, donations may be made to The Arthritis Society c/o 5626 – 51 Street, St. Paul, AB T0A 3A1.

He was Leonards Boss with Alberta Highways Department years ago. Leonard would tell me and others what a good person Steve was and all the fun times they had shared together——-Steve truely was a wonderful man ——–God Bless You and Give You Comfort

What can I say about Uncle Steve? Smereka’s were our next door neighbors growing up through the years, more like relatives, and family….They had the best, greenest, most lush garden in town, Steve was a master meticulous craftsman, who could make something out of anything, a character and a card….and ooohhh….those Cinammon Buns Auntie Diane would make..mmmmm….brings me back to St.Paul in a flash…and Clancy, well, he’s finally got his best buddy by his side again….and im sure they’re catching up on the local town gossip this very second….we love you Uncle Steve and will miss you dearly…..Pepi and Simone…
