Obituary
On April 18, 2014, Laura Catherine Halfe of Goodfish Lake passed away at the age of 74 years. She is survived by 2 sons, Garry (Sherry) Halfe & Kurt (Tina) Halfe both of Goodfish Lake; 2 daughters, Kathy (Ken) McConnell of McRae & Denise Halfe of Goodfish Lake; adopted children, Maggie (Bill) McConnell of Boyne Lake, Sophie Houle & Tommy (Lillian) Houle both of Goodfish Lake; 21 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; 1 great-great-grandchild; 5 brothers, George (Gayle) Hunter of Vilna, Phillip (Evelyn) Hunter of Goodfish Lake, Gary Moyou, Dennis Moyou & Orland Moyou all of Vancouver, B.C.; sister, Charlotte (Robert) Whitford of Goodfish Lake; numerous nieces & nephews. She was predeceased by 2 sons, Casey ½ & Brian ½ & 3 children in infancy; adopted son, George Houle; granddaughter, Avery Hunter; parents, Eddie Moyou & Mildred Hunter; 3 brothers, John, Charlie & Eric Hunter; 2 sisters, Mary Hunter & Leona Moyou. A Wake will be held on Thursday & Friday, April 24 & 25 at Goodfish Lake Cultural Centre, Goodfish Lake. A Funeral Service will be held on Saturday, April 26 at 11:00 a.m. at Goodfish Lake Cultural Centre, Goodfish Lake. Laura was an incredible lady. She had a heart of gold and loved everyone. She was soft spoken and had so much patience. Laura was known as kookum to many students. I loved Laura for the person she was. May her memories help the family and extended family through this difficult time. God bless you all.

My deepest Sympathy to all Laura’s children, grandchildren and family members. She was a wonderful person with a good heart and a great spirit. As a teacher at Ashmont Elementary and Secondary Schools for 22 years, I came to know Laura very well. I am truly sorry that I am not able to attend her service, but I send you all my prayers and love at this difficult time. She will be fondly remembered!

She will be missed, such a kind hearted lady, she was my teacher in elementary.. our class was very rambunctious, but she had this ability to settle everyone down with never raising her voice.in the past few years I ran into her, after so many years she remembered me. She remembered my name, my stories. She reminded me of so much in my younger days. She will be missed, condolences to the entire family, friends, community, those who met this incredible woman… heaven gained a angel.

As was already said Laura was a kookum of the heart for many children. She bloomed with a smile when ever she spoke of a child and was tolerant of them all. Laura accepted people as they were with out concern for their background. If your had to call her anything it was an Angel on Earth and now she is in heaven.
