Hilda was a force to be reckoned with, yet there was always tea and home made bread waiting for me at the Smith home when I was a young teacher in Heinsburg. Condolences to the Smith families on their loss. Hilda will be missed.

From: Wesley Neumeier
Relation: Close friend and neighbour

It is with profound thanksgiving and sadness that I offer my condolences to the Smith Family. Hilda and Bob opened their home to many neighbourhood children. They were supportive, grounding influences and they welcomed us for life into their family. Together we broke bread, shared our stories and struggles, and enjoyed life. They granted life-long acceptance and belonging for so many. For me, Hilda was like a second mom, always generous and welcoming, supportive of my accomplishments and consistent in her desire for my wellbeing. She made the best chicken noodle soup I’ve ever tasted, and I will always remember her table for its wholesomeness and its laughter, not to forget her delicious chocolate chip cookies! She gave so many of us her cherished Patchwork quilts and blankets, and in this giving we felt her abiding love, her joy, and her charitable heart. Hilda’s passing represents a deep loss to family, friends, and neighbours, and yet we are consoled by the life we shared with her. I thank her and Bob, the Smith family, and cousins always and forever for the kindness and love. I offer you each and all my condolences.
