Douglas GILLESPIE

November 30, 1941 - November 2, 2017

Obituary

It is with heartfelt loss and gentle relief that the family of Douglas Gordon Gillespie (Husband, Father, Grandfather, Great Grandfather) announce his passing on November 2, 2017. Doug enjoyed fishing, hunting, playing with his grandkids, and especially his beloved teams the Edmonton Oilers and Eskimos. Even though the Oilers’ season is well underway it was time for him to go. We know he will be cheering in heaven. Doug felt blessed with his beautiful family and enjoyed watching his children grow up and succeed in their own lives. Each new grandchild brought even more happiness and fulfilment. Family was his passion and foundation in life and he was the biggest kid of all. Doug took exceptional pride in building anything and everything. He was truly a talented carpenter and a man of all trades.
He is survived by his children, Shelly (Robert) Shybunka of Vegreville, Bobbie (Raymond) Jeffery of Mallaig, Douglas (Elizabeth) Gillespie of Sooke, B.C. & Heather (Tom) Starosielski of Ashmont; 12 grandchildren, David, Jason, Alicia, Scott (Justine), Steven (Karla), Baylee, Michael, Emily, Peter, Andrew, Mienna & Kaela; 5 great-grandchildren, Logan, William, Gage, Khloe & Nova; brother, Raymond (Donna-Rae); numerous nieces & nephews. Doug is finally able to join his sweetheart in heaven, his wife of 48 years, Patricia Gillespie. He is also predeceased by his parents, Francis & Hilda; 2 sisters, Alvina Sillman & Irene Martel; grandson, Jake Clifford Douglas Jeffery. Funeral Service will be held on Saturday, November 11 at 1:00 p.m. at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, 5517 – 51 Street, St. Paul. Private interment to follow at Ashmont Community Cemetery, Ashmont.
The family extends a thank you to relatives, friends, and neighbours for their acts of kindness, offerings of help and sympathy. Special thank you to Dr. Harmse and Loretta Manning from Palliative Care for their compassion and care in his final days. If desired, donations may be made to Haying in the 30’s (Cancer Support Society) c/o 5626 – 51 Street, St. Paul, AB T0A 3A1. From: Loretta Manning

Doug’s family,
My sincere sympathy to your entire family. I feel privileged to have had the opportunity to meet Doug and get to know him over the past year. He has left me with some valuable insight on palliative care from the patient’s perspective. Because of him, I will be a better nurse in my care of others. Thank you all for the opportunity to learn from him by being part of his journey through illness.
I wish you all peaceful memories.

From: The Chomlak Families

Shelly and Robert:
Our deepest condolences for the loss of your father. May you always treasure your memories.
