Maurice GAMBLIN

May 1, 1939 - January 8, 2021

Obituary

On January 8, 2021 Maurice “Moe” Gamblin of St. Paul passed away at the age of 81 years. Moe was born in 1939 to Annie & Gus Gamblin and raised on a farm near St. Lina, Alberta. He had many good memories of farm life and helping his father in the fields. At the age of 18, Moe enlisted in the Royal Canadian Air Force. It was at Falcon Bridge base where he met his future wife who he described as, “a very pretty, like-minded lady, who was also a serving member in the RCAF. Genevieve (Genny) Magnin and Moe were married at the Cold Lake base in 1963.

During his service, Moe was stationed at Clinton, ON, Sept Îles, QC, Falconbridge, ON, Holberg, BC and Duluth, MN. While in Duluth, Moe was an accomplished scuba diver whose talents were put to use on a project to raise the shipwreck “SS America” from the depths of Lake Superior. He also managed a skidoo sales & repair shop at the renowned Goldfines by the Bridge. He and Genny enjoyed boating, snowmobiling and archery while they lived on the shores of Pike Lake.

In 1975, Moe returned with his own family to his Alberta roots and began farming close to where he grew up. He also worked the oil rigs during the winter and returned with tales of polar bears and hair-raising arctic flights. When Moe and Genny retired, winters were enjoyed in Texas where they relished walking along the coast of South Padre Island, experiencing day trips to Mexico or just visiting with new-found friends from all over the country.

Moe was also an avid fisherman, skilled photographer and highly adept computer geek. He will be sorrowfully missed by his wife of 57 years, Genevieve; 4 children, Barb (James) Clover, Morris, Ann (Kevin) Christensen & Anthony (Sherri); 11 grandchildren; & 1 great-granddaughter.

Due to COVID-19, no service will be held at this time. Cremation has taken place. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Haying in the 30’s (Cancer Support Society) c/o 5626-51 Street, St. Paul, Alberta T0A 3A1. To send condolences online, please visit www.gracegardensfuneralchapel.com.

From: Norman Magnin
Relation: My Uncle

To the whole family, I offer my condolences. Uncle Moe was a great man (one of the best) and I remember finding him at family gatherings by locating his cowboy hat or outside having a smoke. He was a huge influence on my life in my youth, as the farm in St. Lina was a second home. Always a kind smile and a great laugh, when he wasn’t working you could find him on his easy chair. Had some fairly deep conversations with him during my lifetime, and he made a better man. God bless.

With all our love,
Danny & Veronica
