Obituary
On May 3, 2023, Mr. Henry “7’s” Steinhauer of Saddle Lake Passed away at the age of 70 years. He is survived by his loving wife, Irene McGilvery; son, Tyrone Gladue; daughter, Chrissy Steinhauer (Dusty McGilvery); adopted children, Patricia Norwest (Wesley), Tyoine McGilvery, Cheryl & Harrison Shirt & Wayne McGilvery; brother-in-law, Ferlin McGilvery; sister-in-law, Lorna (Leonard) McGilvery; sister, Charlotte Large; 3 brothers, Robert, Joe (Olive) & Arthur (Verna); sister-in-law, Jenny McGilvery; special nephews, Patrick “niwîcewâkan” & Morten “niciwams”; numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces & nephews. Henry was predeceased by his sons, Stacey & Carl; stepsons, Darren, Merl & Jonathon McGilvery; stepdaughter, Alison McGilvery; parents, John & Mary; brothers, Donald, Wilfred, Floyd, Jerry, Raymond, Morton, Carl & Dwayne; brother-in-law, Fabian Large. A Wake will be held on Saturday (leaving Grace Gardens at 1:00 p.m.) & Sunday, May 6 & 7 at Ayiwakes Cultural Centre, Saddle Lake. A Funeral Service will be held on Monday, May 8 at 11:00 a.m. at Ayiwakes Cultural Centre, Saddle Lake. Relation: Ist Cousin.
Although we were 1st Cousins, we’ve always failed to connect. Perhaps… if God willing we will celebrate our relationship in Paradise (God Willing). I now see our failure to connect was always both our destinies, and instead, as Cree People, we hold Blood Relations as being as stronger than “Person-to-Person” friendships.
