William "Bill" WHITE

March 25, 1933 - August 15, 2018

Obituary

William White passed away at the age of 85 years on August 15, 2018 in Ashmont, Alberta through medical assistance in death. He was born March 25, 1933 on a farm in Manitoba. He was predeceased by his wife, Edith White; his parents, Abram White and Merinda Black; and his brother, John White. Bill is remembered through his friends, and survived by his children, Trina Burnett, John White (Scott Knarr), and Lisa (Ivan) LaBrie; his grandchildren, Kenny Burnett, Laura LaBrie & Chantal LaBrie; and his siblings, Vera, Roy, and Pearl.

Bill’s work history is made up of several positions at the CBC where he started as a radio technician. From there, he worked his way up to management, spent time as the Regional Director in Saskatchewan, followed by the Regional Director in Ottawa, and finally as the Vice President of Finance, which is the position from which he retired. He also served the community as a volunteer firefighter. In his later years, he contributed a hand by volunteering in many of the Boscombe Community Centre events that were held, such as the Hillbilly Jam.

Bill valued his experiences with his friends by always clearing time in his schedule for fishing and hunting trips. He was also an avid member of the St. Paul golf club, was a fantastic crib player, and always had a song lyric or a quote to share. He lived in his house on Upper Mann Lake, which he personally designed and built with his family.

The family wishes to thank all who offered their support and condolences. We will gather to remember Bill and the full life he lived on Saturday, October 13 at 2:00pm at the Boscombe Community Hall, Boscombe. Hopefully, when this is all over, we can smile. Cremation has taken place. To send condolences online, please visit www.gracegardensfuneralchapel.com.

It is with great sadness that we learned the passing of your father who has had a great impact in our lives when working in Ottawa. He has been an excellent boss, comprehensive and amicable. He has been a friend sharing what life in the country has to offer best, nature and serenity. Our memories are filled with beautiful moments. We offer yo our most sincere condolences.

I worked in the newsroom at CBXT when Bill was a manager and he was a joy to work with. He was always encouraging staff and generous with compliments.
Bill set a standard that is not only a model for managers, but for all of us. He touched so many lives in positive ways and blessed all he came in contact with.

Darrel & I send our deepest sympathy and love to you, Trina, John & Scott, and Lisa & Ivan & Families.
I met Bill on the first day I joined CBC , February , 1960, He was not only a colleague but he and Edie and family were among our closest friends for the next 58 years. , Bill was a true friend and we spend much time reflecting on memories of our times with them. He was a leader, a great achiever and a mentor. Bill had a good sense of humor and was a dedicated outdoorsman – hunting, skiing, fishing, golfing and building. He did it all. A life well lived. We are so blessed to have had him in our lives.

what he set out to. A leader
