On October 28, 2012, Mr. Mike A. Melnyk of Weasel Creek passed away at the age of 78 years. He is survived by Olga Melnyk. Also survived by his children & grandchildren: Chris (Joyce) of Waskatenau & their children Christie & Bobbi-Jo; Lawrence (Val) of Waskatenau & children Michelle, Michael & Mandy; Dennis (Donna) of Thorhild & children Terri, Shalene & Kyla; daughter-in-law, Veronica Melnyk (Richard Halonen) of Waskatenau & children Vanesa & T.J.; his youngest son, Averie; numerous great-grandchildren; sisters, Annie Sawchuk, Mary Sawchuk, Olga (Joe) Klem & Stella Sumka; brothers, Nick (Madeline) & Peter Melnyk; brother-in-law, Al Shipka. Mike was predeceased by his eldest son, Andy; grandson, Matthew; sister, Katie Shipka; 2 brothers, John & Andrew; 3 brothers-in-law, Tommy Sawchuk, Andrew Sawchuk & Terry Sumka; sister-in-law, Irene Melnyk. Special thanks to Drs. Anton & Stephan Raubenheimer & the staff at Smoky Lake Acute Care & Bar-V-Nook Lodge for their compassionate care. Funeral Service November 1, 2012 at 10:00 a.m. at Newbrook Community Hall, Newbrook. Very Reverend Father Alex Palamarchuk officiating, with interment in Weasel Creek Community Cemetery (St. Michael’s), Weasel Creek. I am sorry to hear of the passing of Mike Melnyk (Junior). Mike Melnyk (Senior), Mike A. Melnyk’s father, was my surrogate father for about five years of my life. At age 15, I was left to farm our land. I have always been grateful for Mike senior’s role in my life, his sharing of technical knowledge of farming and simply sharing of himself as a kind person. The Melnyk’s are extraordinary people, creating value, in rather tough part of the country. I wasn’t able to attend Mike senior’s funeral to express my gratitude to his family then. The descendants should be proud of their roots, of their father, grandfather, great grandfather …
