Obituary
On September 23, 2017 Mr. Mike Bodnar of St. Paul, formerly of Foisy, passed away peacefully in his sleep at the age of 96 years. He is survived by his loving son & daughters, Lawrence (Audrey), Judy (George) James, Joanne (John) Bright & Debbie (Lawrence) Piquette; 13 grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren; 4 brothers, William (Henrietta), Nick, Peter (Linda) & Rick; 3 sisters, Nancy Malo, Helen Lavoie & Mary Taschuk; numerous nieces & nephews. He was predeceased by his wife, Rosie; daughter, Lorraine; 3 brothers, John, Alex & George. A Funeral Service will be held on Wednesday, October 4 at 1:00 p.m. at Grace Gardens Funeral Chapel, St. Paul. Reverend Father Peter Haugen will be officiating, with interment in Holy Trinity Ukrainian Orthodox Cemetery, Mamaestie. Judy & I have been friends since childhood. Our families knew each other for over 50 yrs. Even when I was old enough, I still referred to Mike as Mr. Bodnar. He was a powerful, quiet-spoken, logical man with a pleasant sense of humor. As neighbors, he & his wife Rose (whom he was devoted to) would do random acts of kindness for my widowed mother like helping her to break land with his gray tractor, haul the roots & rocks away for her & cultivate her garden annually. He would also do bits of welding for us on my little brother’s wagon or a garden tool. He had built (welded) the best swing set in the neighborhood so kids could soar as high as they liked without fear of tipping. Good memories of him. Our condolences to all of his family.
