Dear Family,

My deepest condolences to all of you. Only recently did I come to know my niece on a more personal level when she reached out for help with managing her escalating illness. She is a beautiful soul who lives on, in and around our lives, and who will continue to enter our lives in spirit as years go by.

One memory I would like to share: Years ago, when I was home visiting my mother, Karen’s Grandma, Karen was a toddler playing at our feet. Mom looked down at her, smiling, and said to me, “She looks like you at that age”. I told this to Karen recently and she confirmed that others had commented about this similarity over the years. We talked about how similar our values were. Having experienced a recent loss myself, we were able to talk about ‘life beyond the veil’. Although she so did not want to leave her family, she was ready to get in her kayak and cross over.
