Obituary

On April 14, 2016, Mr. John Boychuk of St. Paul passed away at the age of 89 years in the early morning hours, his favourite time of day. He is survived by his loving wife, Anne, to whom he was married to for 67 years; daughters, Linda of Canmore, BC, Barbara (Glen) & Maryann (Michael) both of Vancouver, BC; sons, Richard of Ottawa, ON & Randall of Houston, Texas; grandchildren, Tanya of Calgary, Nerissa (Richard) of Dubai, United Arab Emerates, Craig & Tasha both of Edmonton, Garrett of Columbus, Ohio, Jasper (Jennifer) of Cantley, QC & Claire of Montreal, QC; great-grandchildren, Olivia of Dubai, United Arab Emirates & John of Cantley, QC. He was predeceased by his parents, Stanley & Barbara (nee Olynyk); a daughter who died at birth; brothers, Peter, Michael & Stanley; sisters, Marie & Helen. John was a happy and fun-loving character, always ready to share a story. He grew up on the family farm at St. Brides, the youngest of 6 children. His parents were immigrants from Galicia, then a province within the Austro-Hungarian Empire, and now part of Eastern Ukraine. He inherited the farm, married Anne Terre, and ran it with her until severe allergies forced a change in occupation. He became a barber and ran his own shop for 16 years, and then, with a partner, purchased the Marshall Wells Hardware Store in St. Paul, which he managed until retirement. Never one to sit still, John was active in the community and a strong supporter of the Elks. He loved nature, fishing, golf and learning about the different places in the world. A Prayer Service will be held on Monday, April 18 at 7:00 p.m. at Grace Gardens Funeral Chapel, St. Paul, withReverend Father Mark Sych officiating. Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Tuesday, April 19 at 10:30 a.m. at St. Paul Cathedral, St. Paul, with Reverend Father Gerard Gauthier and Reverend Father Mark Sych con-celebrating. Inurnment in Protection of the Blessed Virgin Mary Ukrainian Catholic Cemetery, St. Paul, will take place at a later date.
