Irene Florence Miller (Kroening)

Obituary
Surrounded by her children, Irene passed away peacefully Sunday, October 11, 2015, at the age of 95.
Irene will be lovingly remembered by her children: Barbara (Brent) Green, Heather (Marvin) Bjornstad, Ken (Maureen) Miller and Richard Miller; grandchildren: Jeff, Kevin, Leanne, Kara, Julie, David, Colin, Paul (Renee) and Tegan: great-grandchild, Alexa: numerous nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her parents, Mike and Martha Kroening: siblings, Richard, Alfred and Dorothy.
Irene was born and raised in Lamont, Alberta. She valued life-long learning, earning her teaching certificate at “Normal” School, her degree in Household Economics at the University of Alberta, and later her Dental Assistant Certification. She worked in each of these fields.
Irene spent most of her adult life in Elk Point. She loved being in her garden and was truly happy when she was cooking in her kitchen. Renowned for her baking, she was really in her element at Thanksgiving and Christmas! Irene volunteered in many capacities for organizations in her community and church.
She will be remembered for her inner strength, her energy, her love for her children and grandchildren, and for doing things right the first time!
The family extends sincere thanks to Dr, Harmse, and to St. Paul Extendicare Director of Care Bernie Kozicky, and to the staff, for their care of Irene.
A Memorial Service to celebrate Irene’s life will be conducted by Reverend Ann McGrath at the Elk Point United Church on Monday, October 26 at 2 p.m. If desired, donations can be made to the Bissell Center c/o 5626 – 51 Street, St. Paul, AB T0A 3A1

Although many years have passed, we have not forgotten the quality years we were able to spend in Elk Point, and our friendship with the Miller family.
To the best of my knowledge, Irene very proud of her children and their accomplishments. She always spoke positively of you. May you have positive memories of the fine lady we knew so well, your mother.

My sincere condolences to Barb & Brent, Heather & Marvin, Ken & Maureen, Richard, and all her grandchildren and her great-grandchild. I very much enjoyed having your mom and grandmother as my teacher for many years. It probably felt like extra long years to her, as she had to give extra help to this lefty with my knitting and cross-stitching. She taught me and many, many others well – I still think of her when I make a white sauce 🙂 She didn’t just teach me to make a white sauce or sew an apron – she taught me that you always do your best, even if it’s just a white sauce or an apron. She was a pillar of our community and our church, and Elk Point was a much better place to live because of her numerous contributions over decades. I hope your many memories bring you comfort at this sad time.
