Irene KARPYSHYN

November 24, 1941 - November 17, 2019

Obituary

Irene was born on November 24, 1941 in Armstrong, British Columbia.
On November 17, 2019, Irene left her one loving family to join another. We held her as long as we could, and we were able to show our love until she took her final breath. Left behind is her loving husband and best friend, George, together for 56 years; her daughter, Eva (Allen) Preston and their children, James (Jenna) Preston, & Mathew (Alanna) Preston; her son, Anthony (Jennifer) Karpyshyn and their son, “The Little Guy”, Andrew Karpyshyn.

At 12:07 a.m., Irene broke her shackles of pain and suffering from her illness, took a deep breath, kicked up her heels and sprinted to heaven where she was met by her mother, Mary Flondra and greeted with warm bread and good coffee; hugged by her dad, Metro Flondra, now craft brewer in Heaven; her best friend, brother, Henry, was playing guitar with his brother-in-law, Ken Mastaler, waiting for her to sing along; sister, Lucy Goruk was waiting for her to catch up on all the news; sister, Rose Karpyshyn and niece, Peggy Borle had lots to tell her; nephew, Greg Flondra, was waiting to rub his “other” Baba’s head and get everyone working; brother-in-law, Andy Karpyshyn fixing everything broken; and sister-in-law, Olga Shapka, with Nadia, busy with her Mom, Dad, Eva & Andrew Karpyshyn, growing gardens and cooking. Left behind, with a little bit of envy, is her sister, Elizabeth (Edward) Jober and family; sister, “nightly caller”, Shirley Mastaler and family; little sister, Grace (Don) Spurgeon and family; baby brother, Peter (Mary) Flondra and family; brother-in-laws, Peter Goruk and family, Steve Karpyshyn and family and Harry Shapka and family. Always Remember…. Just Breathe.
Funeral Service will be held on Friday, November 22 at 10:30 a.m. at Vilna Cultural Centre, Vilna. Very Reverend Father Don Bodnar will be officiating with interment in the Holy Trinity Ukrainian Catholic Cemetery, Spedden. If desired, donations may be made to Haying in the 30s (Cancer Support Society) or Alberta Heart & Stroke Foundation c/o 5626 51 Street, St. Paul, AB T0A 3A1. Uncle George, Eva and Anthony, our thoughts are with you. Auntie was a very special lady, and my childhood is filled with many memories of her kindness as Anthony and us boys set up farmyards under her feet in the kitchen.

Uncle George, Eva, Anthony and family – our thoughts are with you now and always. Auntie Irene was such a special person…family was always the most important to her and she always made everyone feel welcome in her home. She has always been such a hugh part of my lifetime memories of “visits to the farm”. I will always remember time spent with her and Uncle George whenever we came to visit and stay at their home – her smile, her wonderful cooking, her garden and mostly, her love and pride in her family. May thoughts of this love comfort you all.
