Obituary
On April 13, 1937, Mrs. Ida Ruth (Brodie) (Stone) McKenzie was born in Cereal, Alberta; daughter of George H. Brodie & I. Leona (Courts) Brodie. Ruth grew up in Sundre on a homestead built by her parents. After finishing her schooling, one of her memorable jobs was working on the Taylor Ranch, where she discovered a great & lifelong love for working with horses. Foremost of them was “Ranger”; the first of many during her life. In 1956 she married Norman L. Stone. In 1959, they and their first 2 of 4 children moved to Jarvis, Ontario. They divorced in the late 1960's. In 1975 Ruth married Art L. McKenzie & they had 2 daughters. They lived & farmed in the Haldimand area. Art passed away in 1994, & in 1996 Ruth returned to Alberta. She lived the remainder of her life in St. Paul, Innisfail & Elk Point, Alberta. With her passing, she leaves behind 5 of her 6 siblings, Barb (Ken) Nielsen, Gord Brodie, Doug (Cora) Brodie, Don Brodie ( Ethel) & Betty (Clarence) Moore; 8 of her 10 children & stepchildren, Randy (Jackie) Stone, Renn Stone, Terry (Grace) Stone, Kelly Stone, Colleen (Maynard) Swedgan, Val (Ken) Gee, Hazel (Paul) Gamble & Duane (Lynn) McKenzie; stepson-in-law, Gary McIntyre; 18 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; 11 brothers & sisters-in-law; aunt & uncle, Dean (Russ) Mayberry; many cousins, nieces, nephews & friends. Ruth is predeceased by her first husband, Norman & second husband, Art; parents; sister, Berna & her husband Wayne Peterson; 2 stepdaughters, Marie (Fred Bailey) (George) Juett & Donna McIntyre; 17 brothers & sisters-in-law; 1 great-grandchild, Cheyenne; 2 daughters-in-law, Joyce Lord & Sara Wall & several nieces, nephews, cousins, aunts & uncles. Ruth’s family would like to extend a heartfelt thank-you to Dr. Ramful & to the staff of Parkview Extended Care for their kind & loving care in her final years. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Parkview Extended Care, Elk Point or to your local long term care facility in her name c/o 5626 – 51 Street, St. Paul, AB T0A 3A1. As per her wishes Ruth will be cremated. Memorial service will be held on Thursday, November 12 at 2:00 pm at Elk Point Senior Citizens Centre.
