Obituary
On March 25, 2017, Mr. Fred Matthew Cardinal of Saddle Lake passed away at the age of 87 years. He is survived by his loving wife of 49 years, Dianna; son, Wayne Fox Cardinal; 2 daughters, Ilona Cardinal & Tara Million; 6 grandchildren, Mckenzie Dowden, Connor, Duncan & Rowan Cardinal-Culver, Anna Marie & Julia Million; sister-in-law, Marie Cardinal; as well as numerous nieces & nephews. Fred was predeceased by his parents, Clark & Marie Flora Cardinal; brothers, Alfred, Johnny & Lucas Cardinal; sisters, Alice Steinhauer, Mary-Jane Lewis & Rosalie Cardinal. A Pipe Ceremony will be held on Saturday, April 1 at 1:00 p.m. at Grace Gardens Funeral Chapel, St. Paul, with cremation to follow. Always enjoyed sharing a story or two over a coffee and pie at the Horse Sales in Bonnyville. You became a great friend of mine that I truly admire and had the utmost respect for! Until we meet again…goodbye ol’ friend, you will be missed!

Fred was a great storyteller and historian of the life at Saddle Lake. I was very honored when he would stop in at Eagle Healing Lodge to visit and I would listen to him. He was a great teacher. I wish I would have had the privilege to tape his knowledge of the history as he knew it. Fred spoke straight from the hip so to speak and I was able to relate to him in that way.
Frank and I stopped at the hospital and I so wanted to tell him how much his friendship meant to me. It was not meant to be as he was sedated at the time.
Fred passing on to the happy hunting grounds is a great loss to our community. However the greater loss is to you Diana and your family as you carry on with your life without him being there. Prayers and love from Frank and I.
