Obituary

PYSYK, Evie

Words cannot describe the heartache that comes with announcing the passing of Evie Grace Pysyk (née Popowich) of Spruce Grove, AB, on April 24th, 2021, at the age of 66. Evie was a baba, mother, wife, sister, and teacher, but no matter what role she was playing, she did so with grace, kindness, and love; a heart of pure gold.

Evie had a contagious smile and always greeted everyone with the best hug and a lipstick kiss. The Pysyk home was widely known for its hospitality, love, and endless food and drink, even while enduring hardship. Evie stood strong by the side of her husband, David, through years of health troubles while personally battling her own MS and other physical ailments. She consistently put others first, and no matter what, Evie was always up for a visit and loved being a hostess. To Evie, everyone was family.

Evie was recently predeceased by her husband of 37 years, David Pysyk, who we know is happily dancing in heaven with her; her mother Margaret Popowich (2013); father Alex Popowich (2009); and infant brother Orest Popowich (1947).

Evie, Baba, will be dearly missed by her children Parker (Andrea) Pysyk and Oriana (Morgan) Leithoff; her grandbabies Logan, Emma and Arlo, whom she cherished so much; her two sisters Adele (Scott) MacLeod and Iris Rudnisky; as well as by her countless family and many, many friends. She will leave behind a legacy of laughter, strength, and love, and her passion for life and music will live on in her children and grandchildren.

Scheduled viewing Tuesday, May 4 from 5:00 to 6:30 p.m. Friends and family must contact oriana.pysyk@gmail.com to arrange a specific time. Funeral Rite Wednesday, May 5 at 10:00 a.m. Both the viewing and funeral to be held at St. Anthony’s Ukrainian Orthodox Church, 6103 – 172 Street, Edmonton, with Reverend Father Dr. Timothy Chrapko officiating. Interment in Sts. Peter & Paul Ukrainian Orthodox Cemetery, Sarrail, with Reverend Father Roman Shiyan officiating. Due to Covid-19 protocol we are heartbroken to announce that these services will be by invitation only.
