Obituary

Eva is survived by 2 daughters, Edith Bertrand of Edmonton, Darlene (Donald) Bodnar of Vilna; 4 sons, Terrence (Anne) Hughes of Sherwood Park, Stan (Elaine) Hughes of Gainford, Len (Marla) Hughes of Calgary & Spencer (Ruby) Hughes of Ardrossan; daughter-in-law, Joan Lovas of Edmonton; two sons-in-law, Eugene Ozubko of Hemmet, CA and William (Elaine) Liddell of Sechelt, B.C.; 28 grandchildren; 51 great-grandchildren; & 4 great-great-grandchildren.

Eva was predeceased by her loving husband of 50 years, Harold Hughes who passed away January 21, 1988; 3 daughters, Merilyn Liddell, Gladys Ozubko & Bonnie Hughes; son, Lawrence Hughes; grandson, Timothy Hughes; great-granddaughter, Caitlyn Bodnar; parents, Edward and Margaret Wilson; 3 sisters; 2 brothers; numerous nieces & nephews.

Eva was a hardworking, loving person to the end of her life. Her strong family ties, her love of God , the hundreds of quilts, afghans & toques she made for family, and the many toques she made for the homeless kept her mind and memory sharp until days before her death. She was a gracious lady and will be remembered with fondness by all who knew her.

Eva’s family would like to extend many thanks to Dr. Brisebois and the staff of Unit 53 of Grey Nuns Hospital. They restored our faith in our medical system. They treated Mom with respect, compassion and kindness and helped her pass her earthly life with the dignity she deserved. Special thanks also to the staff and residents at Londonderry II and Pleasantview Lodge & to the members of the Londonderry Dutch Reform Church for their wonderful friendship and care of our Mother. Heartfelt thanks to Reverend Ron Allen and his wife Joyce for the many visits with Mom, being caring friends to her and sharing in her love of God.
