Ella DROBOT (Nee Krekoski, Hovelkamp)
November 1, 1933 - March 22, 2020
Obituary
On March 22, 2020, Ella Drobot passed away suddenly of natural causes. At a later Celebration of Life, her ashes will be spread over her beautiful Stoney Lake hills beside those of Mike Drobot Jr., her loving husband of 36 years.
Ella is survived by one daughter, Karen Hovelkamp (Kenneth Cummins) of Edmonton and grandchildren, Nathan Sorochan (Trina Koscielnuk) and Nicole Sorochan (Michael Tension) all of Victoria, Vancouver Island, and one son, Kevin Hovelkamp (Yolande) of St. Paul and grandson, Sean Hovelkamp of Edmonton.
“Grandma used to say ‘Sean, a little bird told me …’ so if I ever need some advice or a chat, I’m sure she’ll send it to me by way of a little bird.” “Whether through a tale of epic adventure or a joke with an unexpected punch-line, grandma lived and inspired me (Nicole) and others through the art of storytelling.” Nathan said, ” Grandma’s love and support always made us feel proud of who we are, where we came from, and where we are going.”
As we grieve her loss, remember her in a way that honors her spirit – picking and sharing some wild berries and helping someone in need. Ella brought a smile and sparkle into the lives of all who knew her and we will miss her forever.

To Karen, Kevin and all the family. Almost 30 years ago, when my husband Bill was so sick and dying,it was an extremely difficult time for me. One day as I was shopping, people I knew kept questioning me how my husband was doing. Every reply brought tears to my eyes! Then I met your Mother in the produce department. She looked into my face and never said a word but opened her arms so wide and gave me the biggest warmest hug ever!!! What a beautiful sensitive person to know how I was feeling!!! Now I am sending my biggest hug to you to comfort you in your sorrow !!! I can just see your Mom and Mike ,hand in hand ,walking the beautiful hills in heaven!!! Gods strength in this difficult time!!!

To Karen, Kevin and families — condolences at this time with the passing of Aunt Ella. Many many fond memories of the ranch at Stoney Lake as a kid with my brother Murray. Ella was a sweet kind sole. I have her wonderful books. My wife Joy loves them.

I was a house guest a few times with her daughter Karen Hovelkamp. Ella Drobot was a great teacher of all things in the garden and one of the kindest people I ever met. I felt privileged to be in her presence. RIP dear Ella, you did good with Karen and the legacy lives on with her, your son, and talented grandchildren, and your lovely books.

Ella’s daughter, Karen Hovelkamp, is a good friend and I was invited to be a houseguest several times and it was a lovely experience. Ella knew a lot about gardening and plants and animals and she openly shared her knowledge. I was very impressed and grateful to have been in the presence of a most marvelous woman. RIP dear Ella Drobot, you did good. Your legacy is great.

We send our very sincere condolences to Ella’s family. During the years we rented pasture land from Mike and Ella, we enjoyed the welcoming visits with them over a cup of coffee and tasty baking. Genuine salt of the earth people that we enjoyed very much.
