On January 25, 2016, Mr. Vernon “Babe” Sharkey of Heinsburg passed away at the age of 85 years. He is survived by his loving wife of 64 years, Colleen; daughter, Lora (Gary) Meiklejohn; son, Rocky (Joanne) Sharkey; 6 grandchildren, Tarelle (Phil) Stubbs, Travis (Danielle) Meiklejohn, Tiana (Lee) Zwarich, Jamie (Tatjana) Sharkey, Aaron Sharkey & Dustin (Jenna) Sharkey; 11 great-grandchildren, Ryan, Nolin & Dalan Stubbs, Alexi Meiklejohn, Taya, Hayes & Wyatt Zwarich, Noah & Nate Sharkey, Montana & Scarlet Sharkey; 2 sisters-in-law, Olga Sharkey & Barbara Boyle; 3 brothers-in-law, Laverne (Doris) Wilson, Ken (Carol) Hunt & Ken Shephard; numerous nieces & nephews. He was predeceased by his parents, Exie & Thelma Sharkey; brother, Lawrence; & sister, Lila Wilson. A Funeral Service will be held on Saturday, January 30 at 11:00 a.m. at Heinsburg Community Hall, Heinsburg. Pastor Kelly Sibley will be officiating, with interment in Frog Lake Community Cemetery, Heinsburg. Sincere sympathies from my wife and I to Colleen & Rocky and all your families. Great memories of attending the Student Transportation Annual Conferences and sitting at Babes table with many others listening to him reminisce of the many incidents that were associated with his past bussing experiences. Also, I appreciated Babe allowing me to hunt on his river property, but he would always say, don’t tell Colleen. In return I would bring wild sausage, smokies and pepporoni, of which he commented that was totally enjoyed.

Please accept our sincere sympathy to Babe’s family and friends. I have a few good memories of Babe he would sometimes be our sub bus driver and i got home fast, just in time to catch 30 minutes of Edge of Night. He was also a fair man, and when he spoke you listened. I remember getting some sound advice from Babe, and I listened. Thank you Babe. RIP until we meet again.
