On January 22, 2026, Real Cardinal of Maskwacis, Alberta formerly of Saddle Lake, Alberta passed away at the age of 53 years. He is survived by his children, Jessie Cardinal, Megan Cardinal, Daenin Cutarm, Raiden Cutarm, Landon Cutarm & Creelyn Greene; grandchildren, Blake, Kasey, Bear, Carter, Mercy, Kairo, Marisol & Lennox; mother, Gloria Ward (Robert); siblings, Tammy Makokis, Coleman Makokis, Cody Makokis, Ashley Yellowknee, Jolene Whitney, Amberly Makokis, Amelia Makokis & Monique Cardinal; special relatives, Esther Crane, Delores Saskatchewan, Marlene Lighting, Marilyn Sunday, Vicky Wahsatnow & Lenny Jackson; numerous other aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces & nephews. Real was predeceased by his father, Roy Makokis; siblings, Vanessa Makokis, Tristan Makokis & Buffy Makokis; maternal grandparents, Stanley & Lena Cardinal, and Sophie Wood; paternal grandparents, Alfonse & Margaret Makokis; great-grandparents, Thomas & Winnie Wahsatnow. A Wake will be held on Saturday, January 31 (leaving Grace Gardens at 2:00 p.m.) & Sunday, February 1 at Ayiwakes Cultural Centre, Saddle Lake. A Funeral Service will be held on Monday, February 2 at 11:00 a.m. at Ayiwakes Cultural Centre, Saddle Lake. Pastor Linda Burns will be officiating with interment in Cache Lake Cemetery, Saddle Lake.
