Michael Shysh

On June 5, 2011, our beloved Michael fell asleep in the Lord. He will be sadly missed and lovingly remembered by his wife, Marie Anna; brother, Alec; brother-in-law & sisters-in-law, John Harasymuk, Nancy Shysh, Caroline (John) Yewchin, Christine (David) Nichiporik & Melvina (Bob) Winnick; nephews, Robert & Leo Boychuk, Michael & Morris Golko, David & Mark Harasymuk & Sandy Shysh; nieces, Halia Gogowich, Joni LeClair, Patrece Mayuzynsky, Kellie Nichiporik & Julie Winnick; also many other relatives, neighbors & friends. He was predeceased by his parents, Fred & Nancy Shysh; brother, John; sisters, Katherine Boychuk, Mary Golko & Anne Harasymuk; brothers-in-law, Roman Boychuk & John Golko; sister-in-law, Jean Shysh; niece, Lorraine Kotowich; mother- and father-in-law, Kate & Steve Elaschuk.

Michael was born on a farm at Stry, Alberta. He attained his B.Sc. in Pharmacy at the University of Alberta. He purchased a drugstore in Vilna in 1952 and operated it until his retirement in 1990. He was an active, outgoing, and humble man — an avid reader, lover of poetry, fisherman, golfer and hunter. His philosophy was to give back to his community. He served in many capacities on different clubs, was instrumental in building the Vilna Golf Course, and beautified our tiny village by planting trees wherever he could. He always stressed the importance of faith, love, kindness, a strong work ethic, and the importance of a good education.

Prayer Service Friday, June 10 at 7:30 p.m. at Vilna Cultural Centre, Vilna. Funeral Service Saturday, June 11 at 10:00 a.m. at Vilna Cultural Centre, Vilna. Reverend Father Benny Ambrosie officiating with interment in Rosehill Cemetery, 13951 Ellerslie Road SW, Edmonton.
