On August 7, 2011 Mr. Merton Royal Willard of St. Paul joined his wife in heaven at the age of 83 years. Mert began his military career in August, 1950 training as a cook. In 1954, he completed the Clerk Administrative training and continued to serve in this new capacity until his retirement in August, 1966. He served his country in Korea, Germany, Belgium and Eqypt. Merton was decorated with numerous medals and awards. In 1982, he returned to his military roots and joined the Canadian Corps of Commissionaires. At retirement, he moved to St. Paul where he joined the Royal Canadian Legion, Branch 100 and the Korean Veterans Association. He served on the Legion executive and was a dedicated Poppy Campaign volunteer, helping with speaking engagements and Remembrance Day contests at the local schools. Mr. Willard is survived by 1 daughter & 2 sons, Margaret (Guy) Laberge of St. Paul, Royal (Theresa) of Woodbridge, ON & Arthur (Amy) of Lacombe; 10 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; brothers & sisters, Kozey, Bonnie, Gwen (Wally), Dale (Joan), Maxine, Rhoda (Jack), Bud (Deanna), Karen (Emelien) & numerous nephews, nieces & their children. He was predeceased by his wife, Vera; parents, Jim & Bessie; sister, Jean; brother, Gerald; & brothers-in-law, Maurice & Jack. A Memorial Service will be held Friday, August 12 at 2:00 p.m. at St. Paul Legion #100, St. Paul with Mr. Armand Laing officiating. Cremation has taken place.
